I’ve been asking God what I should write about.
I thought perhaps God wanted something light, so I ought to share the story I recently read about the Pastor and his wife were having a disagreement and giving each other the silent treatment. The next day however the pastor realised that he’d need his wife to wake him at 5am so he could leave to catch an early morning flight he had to take. He didn’t want to be the first to break the silence (and lose), so he wrote on a piece of paper, “Please wake me at 5am”, leaving it on his wife’s bedside table.
The next morning the Pastor woke, only to discover it was 7am, meaning he’d missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn’t woken him when he noticed a piece of paper on his bedside table. It said “It is 5am. Wake up”.
I did then also think maybe I should write about the new torch I bought to use on the early morning dog walk. It’s brilliant and lights up my path I take through the farm land at the bottom of the road. Gods been reminding me that we should “walk in the light of the Lord” - Isaiah 2 v 5.
But I also thought maybe I should share about the decorating I’ve been finishing putting emulsion on the walls. I was thinking about how God doesn’t Paint over our sin and just cover it up. He removes it. “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us”. Psalm 103 v 12
I realised though that in fact I wasn’t sure what God really wanted me to say........until He prompted me.
And so this is it. Sometimes you know, we don’t in fact need to say anything. God reminded me about when we pray. The Bible tells us “We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express”. Romans 8 v 26. What an encouragement. In those time’s when we come before the Lord and we just don’t know what to say - when we just can’t find the words, or can’t begin to tell him - well, we don’t need to. That’s because the Holy Spirit, the one called alongside to help us, is talking to the Father on our behalf, asking for what we really need.
Think about that today . Take a moment to be still and let the one who knows us better than we know ourselves talk to the Father on our behalf. Then, we will be blessed.
