I read once that ‘faith is like treading on tissue paper trusting there’s a rock underneath’. I don’t know about you but I’ve trodden on a lot more tissue paper during lockdown! Of course, God has always been there underneath as my Rock to guide and encourage me, even if it’s taken me a while to realise that in some situations.
I’ve been reading the Bible more in lockdown. (One of the many things that had been on my ‘to do’ list for a while!) I still keep finding how exciting and relevant the Bible still is today. How it tells of a God who loved us with an everlasting love and also shows what a charismatic person Jesus was and is. Perhaps that partly explains why Jesus is talked about so much still, with negative and positive comments?
Perhaps you’re a bit low or sad today or finding it difficult to get through these changing times. Since lockdown (in amongst the many sorts outs!) I’ve found some notes from a few years ago that have helped me again. They say how the majority of us in this country don’t have fear of harassment or arrest, have not known the loneliness of imprisonment or the pangs of starvation. We have clothes and food (albeit with some shopping difficulties initially in lockdown), and that makes us richer than 75% of the world. I hope you too find that useful.
Change can be good can’t it, but we often find it upsetting don’t we? It’s easy to feel hurt, let down, worried, frightened or anxious isn’t it? Jesus knew about change though didn’t He, and He was also let down and hurt during his life which of course ended with betrayal and pain to literally death. Only for Him to then rise from the dead.
God’s been reminding me of past hurts that I had long since forgotten and thought I’d dealt with, but He made me realise I hadn’t. So I’ve been praying and working through those situations. I’ve prayed for forgiveness for the other person, for myself sometimes when I’ve wrongly blamed myself for things and made an effort to let go of the emotions – with a lot of help from God!
I’ve been constantly reminded that God uses bad situations that human beings (and we ourselves) put us through to help us get to a better stronger place in our lives, both physical and spiritual. He can use any situation for our good can’t He? Even lockdown.
I pray that he has been able to help you as much as he has helped me these past 3 months.
This is from the Plain Truth; you may have read this before, but if not, it may bring you a little peace, comfort and encouragement. I pray it will.
And the people stayed at home. And read books, and listened and rested, And exercised and made art, and played games And learned new ways of being still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed and some danced. Some met their shadows – and people began to think differently. And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, Dangerous, mindless and heartless ways, The earth began to heal. And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, They grieved their losses, and made new choices. They dreamed new images, and created new ways to live And heal the earth fully just as they had been healed.
